US stock indices closed higher on optimism around corporate reporting

Major US stock indices ended higher on Monday on investor optimism regarding expected corporate reporting. At the end of the day, the Dow Jones rose by 0.38%, the S&P 500 – by 0.32%, and the Nasdaq – by 0.35%.

Expected events of the week include financial results of large companies, as well as the Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

Apple and Amazon, as well as about 170 companies included in the S&P 500, will report profits in the first quarter, business insider reports. About half of the players forming it have already reported their results, while 80% of them showed higher profits than expected, Fundstrat data shows.

As for the Fed meeting, market participants are inclined to believe that they should not expect a reduction in the key rate. Investors expect to hear hints from Jerome Powell about the regulator's future plans for the near future, as well as his assessment of the state of the US economy.
